Partial Hair Replacement Systems

Partial hair replacement systems are designed specifically to cover a small balding area. This would commonly be used by someone who started to notice balding in either the temples or the crown of the head. The partial hair replacement can be designed using both fine welded mono as well as injected skin base. This hair system may be bonded as well as taped on depending on preference. As your balding area gets larger your partial is going to bet bigger as well, until you no longer need it and can switch over to a full front lace or injected skin system. Partial hair replacement systems can be created in any shape any size to fit your specific needs, this also makes it a great option for individuals looking to cover a specific area due to an accident or an illness such as Alopecia Areata.

Hair Loss Key Words

Here’s a few terms and meaning that you may come across while researching hair loss options.  A great aid for navigating through the world of hair replacements.

Hair Replacement
A general term for any procedure in which encroaching baldness is non-surgical or  surgically reversed by grafting, tightening, or flap rotations, using standard grafts, minigrafts, and micrografts, scalp flaps, scalplifting procedures, scalp reduction, and tissue expanders

Male Pattern Baldness

Also called alopecia hereditaria, androgenetic alopecia, male pattern alopecia, patterned alopecia.

Alopecia simply means hair loss (baldness).

Alopecia areata

Surgical and Non-Surgical Hair System Procedures: What’s the Best Method for You

Many suffer with the nightmare of hair loss and search high and low for an answer to their problems.  This blog is to help, educate and guide you in making such an important decision and investment.  As they say “Different strokes, for different folks,” but when you breakdown some of the pros and cons that you face when deciding on a system, much of the real information is left out or not even mentioned. Dealing with such a stressful condition and trying to find a solution, can easily add up to you being persuaded into a decision that you live to regret.  Be sure to research the best possible hair system for your circumstances.  A desperate person would jump to the possibility if it’s presented or advertised the right way. Be aware!!!

When exploring the options of having or deciding on a surgical procedure to fix your hair loss problems, there are many things and steps you might want to look into like; the best doctors, cost, risks and results.  Here’s a short list of a few uncovered and lost facts about surgical hair system methods.

-Most surgeons today are still using outdated procedures
-It requires a very high level of skill, experience and a full staff
-Your hair will never be as full as it was before you start to thin
-Only a handful of surgeons performing surgical hair restoration to the state of art standards
-Extensive research required by you; the patient
-There are only 2 FDA approved products that have been clinically proven to stop or prevent                       hair loss (Minoxidil {Rogaine} & Finasteride {Propecia})
-The 2 FDA approved products only have an effective outcome for a limit of time and then began to wane
-Most surgeons have a no refund policy regardless of your results; They don’t guarantee
-Sometimes the procedure can damage your existing hair therefore eliminating any future hope for donor hair
-Many scar, swell and/or suffer from redness, irritation and even infection
- Most prices average at $9.00 per graft (It usually takes a few hundred to a couple of thousands for the treatment)
-Results takes up to 6 months – 2 years

If time, risk, cost and results play a significant role on your list, maybe taking the non-surgical route is best for you.  Having a background and over 50 years in the business, I think it’s the most resourceful and stress-free way to go.  My argument is clarified in the below list.

-Absolutely no pain involved
-The set up or molding process takes all of a hour and 6-7 weeks to receive your system
-Very safe and sanitary
-Cost comes in under $2000
-Great investment
-A one- time molding process
-Custom fit, undetected, and natural hairline
-Color match from cut samples of your existing hair
-No contracts or memberships required
-Minimum services involved with the care of your system
-Overall affordable, convenient and safe

Non-surgical hair replacement is a great option for individuals suffering from excessive hair loss. Non-surgical hair replacement refers to any hair replacement solution that is non invasive. This is the safest way of restoring your natural hair. There are many risks that come with surgical hair replacement that can be avoided with non-surgical hair replacement. There is never a guarantee that the hair implanted to the balding area will adapt. This option is also very time consuming, expensive, and painful. You have to consider a certain recovery period as well as a possible infection.  Even though there are many companies out there that are simply trying to make profit by selling the hair replacement systems using stock pieces for a low price, there are also companies that care about offering a customized and undetectable results. David Hansen’s offers the highest quality undetectable systems that are custom designed for every individual to fit their specific needs. Just remember to do extensive research into either method you decide to choose or even change.  Good Luck & Good Looking!

Different Methods of Holding on Hairpieces

In the world of those who wear hairpieces, there are only a few options of applications and a great foundation.  You should also know how important they are and roles they play when it comes to comfort and convenience. For those who wonder about your options when purchasing and wearing a hairpiece for the first time, this should give you a little insight on the subject.
From the past to the present, the application process has a great influence on the lifespan of your hairpiece.  Methods include clips, bonding and 2-sided adhesive tape.  When choosing a method, make sure it’s the best option for you.  Women usually find the clips to work out the best; for adding fullness in thinning or balding areas.  My top pick for applying men’s hairpieces would be the tape.  My reasons come from both experience and research.  Tape has many advantages that my customers look for.  It allows for quick and easy application and removal.  This plays a great role when it comes to showering, sleeping, and playing sports.  Removing your hairpiece during these activities will help preserve your piece.  Clean up is a no brainer.  This process only involves pulling off the old tape and washing it in the proper solution, and back to new! When it comes to a great  foundation, I enjoy the durability and strength of using a fine welded mono material.  Its light weight, breathable, and the ability to hold shape makes it an ideal medium to use in making a custom fit hairpiece.  I also use a lace-front finish. Both adds to the undetected and natural look.  Finally is the option of bonding, which I am 100% against.  The reasons why include the messy job of cleaning a hairpiece full of glue, the limitation of removing it when you desire, and hygiene issuses is may cause from improper ventilation.  We all have our own favorites, top picks and reasons, but as a hairstylist and specialist for over 50 years, I think tape is the best choice!

Sports, Exercise and Hair Replacement (hair systems, hair restoration, toupee)

Exercise and sports are a large part of a healthy lifestyle.  Most commonly exercise is used to control ones weight, but it also combats health conditions and diseases, improves mood, boosts energy, promotes better sleep, and puts the spark back into your sex life. With all these positive aspects related to exercise and sports you do not want to sacrifice a healthy lifestyle in order to look good.  In many ways exercise and hair replacement are related. They both make you look and feel good about yourself, and help one maintain a youthful appearance. With exercise and a hair system you can look and feel your best!

It is possible to wear a hair replacement and continue to exercise; you just have to know about a few related facts.

WEAR THE RIGHT HAIR REPLACEMENT!

I cannot stress this enough, do not get a bonded hair system if you are trying to stay active. When you get a hair replacement system bonded on there is not enough air circulation getting through to your scalp creating a raisin effect. All the moisture from your head ends up on top of your scalp and under your hair system.  Not only is this unsanitary, smelly, inconvenient, but it also creates itching, irritation, and discomfort. In the worst case scenario you can end up with open lesions which can get infected due to the lack of oxygen and amount of dirt and buildup.

A lace piece will provide a lot more air circulation, but remember make sure to eventually take off your piece and wash the scalp underneath to prevent major odor. If you are afraid that the hair piece will not withstand vigorous exercise you can apply a stronger hair replacement tape. Ask your hair replacement provider to order you a two way adhesive tape that is stronger that the regular hair replacement tape.

Another aspect to take into consideration is to not swim in your replacement system. Chlorine is not good for any hairpiece, it can be an easy way to damage your hairpiece, and will reduce its life span. Like with anything else to keep it looking its best you have to take care of it, so take care of yourself and look your best!

Before You Buy a Hair Replacement (hairpiece, hair system, and toupee) Care and Maintenance

Before you buy your hair replacement you should learn about what is involved in keeping your hair system clean and looking its best.

1. Make sure you get your hair cut by a professional who is in the hair replacement business. Take your time and find the best hair replacement specialist in your area or travel outside to a different state or city. Usually the larger companies are less personal with their clients and their products are not of high quality. Many times they also hire people right from beauty school who do not have the experience in cutting-in hair replacement. Try finding someone who has been in the business for a long time and they know what they are doing. Ask if you could come in and see them work on one of their clients. If a person is confident in their abilities and the final product they will be more likely to let you observe them at work (you want to know what to expect). Since a hairpiece is a long term investment make sure you find the best specialist possible (unfortunately there are few left). Another advantage of getting a hair replacement specialist cut your hair is that they prepare it for the hair replacement system. It lets them study your hair, its movement, what it will and will not do, its texture and feel. Then ounce the time comes that you need to get a hair replacement system your hair will blend a lot better with the system.

2. To extend the longevity of the hair system you should avoid swimming in the system, chlorine, lake water as well as salt water damages the hair. Also avoid having your hairpiece out in direct sunlight or under florescent light for an extended period of time as this oxidizes the hair making it slowly lose its natural color.

3. Make sure you get regular maintenance done on your hair replacement system. As you notice that it is time to get a haircut make sure you go to a hair replacement studio. Bring your hairpiece along for its regular maintenance, at this time you can also bring your other pieces to get cleaned and styled as well. When you get a haircut from a hair replacement specialist they know exactly how to cut your hair so that the hair system blends in without destroying the hair piece. As you take your hair system in the patch material as well as the hair will be cleaned, the hair piece styled so that it is ready to wear. If you need to clean your hair replacement system in between haircuts make sure you take off the tape first. Turn on lukewarm water, come through the hair piece before submerging it into the water (this will prevent major tangling and pulling out of the hair). Wash it with a gentle shampoo moving your hand in circular motions; make sure you rinse out the entire residue. Only towel and air dry your hairpiece using a brush or comb to style it (you should leave the hairdryer drying to a professional). Once again for best maintenance let the professional handle and wash the hair replacement system.

4. Do not use regular hair spray on your hairpiece. This will speed up the oxidation of the hair piece as well as leave residue on the individual strands of hair. This residue is very hard to take off and looks like white dots on the hair. The hair spray will also dry out the hair making it more delicate and brittle. Instead of using hair spray turn to water. Purchase a spray bottle, fill it with water and mist it over the hair system. After it dries it will lock in the desired style. If you have to use hair spray use one designed specifically for hairpieces. I have one that I recommend on my website www.davidhansen.com you can purchase it by calling my salon at 312-943-8171 or emailing me at davidhansen@davidhansen.com (the hair sprays cost $15-$20 each).

5. Do not wear a base ball hat that is fitted too tightly; get them a size or two bigger. This will prevent dents from forming in the hair system.

If you follow these suggestions and have regular maintenance done owning a hair replacement system should be as easy as one, two, there. You wake up put new tape on (if needed, you do not have to replace tape every day. As long as it is still tacky you do not need to put new tape on) put the hair replacement on your head. Comb or pick the hair through, mist with water if needed and you are on your way out.

I hope this blog was informative for more questions you can visit my website provided below or contact me by phone or email I am always glad to help.

Types Of Hair Replacement

All hair systems fall into one of three general categories:
(1) custom made
(2) semi-custom made
(3) stock pieces
If you're looking for cream of the crop, there is no question about it--you'll want your hair replacement to be custom made, made by hand to match your own requirements.
A custom-made hairpiece is made by creating a plastic mold of your balding area. This ensures that the hairpiece will fit perfectly and the mold retains shape which makes it reusable. You can order your pieces by phone ounce your hair replacement designer has your mold and hair sample (unless your hair changes color ex. gets greyer than you need to come in and let the hair replacement specialist take hair samples from specific parts of your head for the next hair piece).
After the hair replacement specialist decides on a material to be used for the base of your hairpiece, the fabric is secured to the head block and the creation of your hair system begins. Each hair, a duplicate blend of that given you by nature, is than ventilated in one hair at a time. Not only is the color of the hair matched to your own, but so is the texture, elasticity, and wave pattern.
The person who made the hair piece will usually want to cut it in. The cutting in and blending of the hair replacement with your own hair is one of the most important parts of creating a hair replacement. If you do not cut and style it the right way the hair system will look like a hair system. It is important to find someone who knows what they are doing. This is what I found very important after being in this business over 50 years, if you don't cut it right it will not look right! I used to teach all over the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbeans, what I discovered as a world champion hair replacement hand hair stylist is that most barbers and hair dressers did not know how to cut hair. You really need to watch out for who is cutting your hair. One main thing to look for in a hair stylist and barber for men is if they hold your hair between their fingers. You should NEVER cut a mens hair using your fingers. This will create lines in the hair and not only will it not grow out right it will not look right. a way to cut a mens hair is to use a comb and shears to cut off the length, tapering shears at the ends of the hair so that the hair blends and lays right, and clippers to create an outline. The outline should not be squared it should blend into the neck. You can also spot a good hair stylist if they groom your eyebrows, nose and ear hair.
In My hair replacement studio all the custom-made hairpieces are designed by me and than I cut, style, and maintain your hair. Just as in the case of a tailor-made suit, it costs a little more for this perfection, but customers believe the end result is worth it. In fact, should you decide to buy your custom-made hair system made by a different company and you do not such quality service as described, perhaps you are not getting a custom made hair replacement. You may be purchasing what is known as semi-custom piece.
Although a semi-custom hairpiece is quite a respectable toupee, it is not ventilated on a head from mold replica of your own head with your measurements alone. It is made on one of three various size head blocks, the closest to your specifications as possible.
In addition, while portions of this hairpiece, such as the part area, may be ventilated by hand, the majority is usually sewn by machine. There is nothing actually about the machine process, and it needn't interfere with the basic effectiveness of the piece. Some of the individuality and workmanship put into a custom model is sacrificed, but quite a satisfactory hair replacement can be produced. Whether it will look good or not will also depend on the skills of your stylist when he cuts the hairpiece in with your existing hair.
Your third alternative in the selection of hairpiece is to purchase a stock piece, one that is entirely machine made and often per-made before you place your order.
Basically, there is nothing wrong with owning a stock toupee as long as you are aware of its shortcomings and don't expect the world from it; namely, perfect color match and perfect fit.
The majority of these pieces are made with synthetic hair, making it more difficult to blend with that of the purchaser. Synthetics are usually straighter; they don't have the amount of curl or waviness required to blend in with the hair of the majority of the majority of the hairpiece clientele. Also, the fit often requires some adjustments, since the system is pre-made.
Stock pieces are usually ordered from large mail-order manufacturers who are financially able to carry a large inventory. Since there are approximately 18 different hair color shades offered, at least a dozed different sizes, and a variety of basic styles, much more of an inventory is required than a small businessman could afford to keep on hand.
The price of these pieces can make them seem quite a bargain, but keep in mind that they will have to be replaced about four times before a custom-made hairpiece will even begin to show signs of wear.
Synthetic stock pieces can be quite useful to a person while he's engaged in outdoor sports or sunning, and many men purchase them as a second hair replacement just for that person, while continuing to wear a custom-made piece for their business and social lives. As an investment for full-time wear, the stock piece usually leaves a lot to be desired.
Of course, if you are buying your hair system from an experienced hairstylist who truly knows his business, he can make any hairpiece look good on you, weather he custom makes it himself or orders it for you ready made. But consider the fact that if he can make even an inferior piece look good (at least temporarily--while it is new and in its best form), he can make one of quality look perfectly natural--or even better.
